How is it that conformity-tending people think that they know something that thoughtful and maybe less-conforming people don't know?

I've got a message for you:
If we wanted to copy everyone else's tastes and behaviors, we would. We know what they are. This goes for the "business" style and the "black t-shirt" style and all the other style clusters as well.

There are plenty of people who make conscious and calculated decisions to wear the right kind of clothes and live in the right kind of house and drive the right kind of car. This is a reliable path to success, and nobody could blame them for doing it. Unfortunately, you can never find out which ones are consciously doing it and which ones are unconscious.
