Chapter 8

We are each granted an infancy, a childhood, and an adulthood.*

You don't have much choice but to grow from infancy to childhood, but growing from childhood to adulthood is more or less an option, and increasing numbers of people are unwilling to make the transition.

There is money to be made in keeping people childish, but remaining childish is not such a great idea for the individual person. In the conscious portions of your life (childhood and adulthood) you can live two lives or you can just live one. Why not go for two, and have two full sets of experience and two frames of reference, two whole lives?

* Adolescence comes under childhood. It certainly isn't adulthood.
