Chapter 9

Is your job hard?

If it's merely tedious it probably wouldn't be called hard. If it's wrecking your body and you crawl home every night completely shot, that would be hard.

If your job isn't so physical -- a desk job or something like that -- what is hard?
Probably if you fail once in a while. If you don't make mistakes, if you're completely in control, you have an easy job. If you're really trying and can't get things done, that means that what you're trying to do is beyond your abilities. That's hard. Constant unrelenting striving and disappointment is hard.

This principle probably extends all throughout our lives. Those golden people who just never completely screw up, they have easy lives. Those of us who go from failure to failure and keep trying, that's a hard life.
