Life is very difficult if you have an expensive overhead.

The physiological, hardwired part of my personality is to be constantly irritated and annoyed by people and their constant malevolence. That's the lizard brain I was born with. Annoyance is my first reflex to any stimulus; and it is instinctive, unconsidered, and unchosen.

I've spent my life striving against my natural impulses. The volitional part of my personality is to be as kind as possible. I want to be a good person. Anyone you're dealing with may have problems you can't even imagine, and you just should be kind.

Not that anyone should care, but it's a real effort; and surely there are plenty of people who are held back by the friction of a similar effort.
