Once, I was in a group of people who briefly expressed disdain for old-fashioned people.

I proposed that if they were born in 1920, and their lives were in flower during the Forties and Fifties, they would be just like the people that they were criticizing.

One female in the group was horrified. She insisted that if she lived 60 years ago, with all the experiences and cultural environment and social cues and education of that time, she would still be a year 2000 person. She'd be exactly the way she was now.

That is so ignorant that I couldn't respond to it then. I can't respond to it now. If you acted like a 2000 person in 1940, you would be institutionalized.
