Chapter 15

Here's another reason why older houses are better than newer houses.

Older houses have a square footprint, with each room at a corner. This means that each room has windows on two walls, and has sufficient daylight.

Newer houses line the rooms up in a row, and each room has windows on only one wall. Consequently every room is dark and dismal -- always.

I have actually had this experience; I am not just theorizing here. When I moved South I moved into a postwar ranch house. I was hoping to see more sunshine, but my life was never darker and more dismal than in this house.
