Adolescents laugh at the dullness of businesspersons, but in order to be a business success, you have to be doing something that relates to the greatest number of people.
This of course means that in order to be successful, you have to have the most average, most ordinary tastes possible. If you do not have common tastes, you will be making things that are more or less idiosyncratic, and it is by definition that nobody relates to things that are idiosyncratic.
Look at Steve Jobs and things like the very successful iPad. He made the iPad because he wanted something like that for himself, and his taste and desires were dead center onto the average multitude's tastes and desires.
