When classical music records started putting the performer's name over the title of the work, it was the end of good classical records. The best classical records I have were made by hot little outfits that nobody ever heard of, and released on nonmajor but very talented record labels.


CDs were another cause of classical music's demise. Rock and modern jazz and similar bombastic stuff sound fine on CDs, but classical music just doesn't come through on them at all. It sounds anesthetized. And of course compressed formats are hopeless.
