Chapter 18

All cars are going to be wired, linked, and monitored.

Of course some people don't like having their every move being monitored, but what can you do. Modern people have no fear of transparency because they have created a world in which there is no shame.

But back to the cars, here's what I want to see: Some system by which tailgaters on highways will electronically trip a penalty. This would be done via the proximity sensors (cars already have them) and the satellite links (cars already have them). Maybe they can just do it via the satellite links. If the Global Positioning System can tell that the guy behind you is almost touching, that would be great.

I suggest a $500 fine and a satellite-imposed speed limit on the car for 30 days. A low speed limit; say 45 mph.

A good rule of thumb is: If you're so close to the car in front of you that another car can't merge in between you, you're much too close.
