Chapter 20

In Spring of 2014, the New York Times had an article about a guy’s rat rod. A rat rod is a Fifties-style hot rod that proudly wears its deterioration since it was built -- or was built to look deteriorated and decrepit.

The article included the sentence:
"The hot rod movement that emerged after World War II drew young men -- it was overwhelmingly a man's pursuit -- who bought the hulks of prewar cars out of scrapyards for a few dollars and modified them for more speed.'

Imagine the worldview of the kind of person who would feel that he had to point out that it was men and not women who were building hot rods in the 1950's. Somebody like this is so mentally ill that he should either be institutionalized or euthenized.
