Chapter 22

I'm going to tell you four reasons why your shouldn't come to adult meetings dressed up like a little kid, in a printed t-shirt, shorts, and flipflops.

1. It is an insult to the group. You can find plenty of airheads who will say it doesn't matter but you shouldn't be guided by people who have low standards. Even if it were an ambiguous situation, you should always take the high road in any ambiguous situation.

2. Toastmasters meetings, in particular, are all about personal advancement. Your personal presentation is part of that. At the very least you can dress like a grownup.

3. Going around dressed like a little kid will subconsciously prompt other people to perceive you as a little kid and to treat you like a little kid. And give you what a little kid gets.
You might not want that.

3. Going around dressed like a little kid will instruct your own subconscious to perceive you as a little kid and to direct your perceptions, aspirations, and actions to an truncated level.
You might not want that.

You might say that Mark Zuckerberg or Eddie VanHalen never wore anything but t-shirts and they were successful. Fine. Are you a world-famous genius? Are you going to change the world?

Maybe you should work with what you’ve got.

Of course, lots of people sabotage their lives, and if that's what you want to do, go for it! As we used to say, it's your funeral.
