If we were getting more intelligent we wouldn't have the selection of election candidates that we have today.

The only thing that has changed is that standards of behavior have gotten so low that louts that would have never been hired anywhere are now acceptable, and some louts are really smart.  A guy with tattoos like a Mexican drug gangmember can be an engineering manager in an American corporation.

Super-smart people were always a little mentally ill.  We previously only recognized the nerd slide-rule-and-pocket-protector version of mentally ill but if you add the tattoos-and-160db-vehicle version of mentally ill, it adds a lot to our intellectual capital.
