In their usual dishonorable fashion, the news media reliably refer to the US Military's "Don't ask don't tell" policy with a tone of sarcasm. As if it were a bad thing. None of the sarcasters, however, have ever condescended to explain to the rest of us just what their objection is.
"Don't ask don't tell" means keep your mouth shut about your private sexual preferences, we don't want to hear about it and it's none of our business.
Who thinks that that's a bad idea? Would you want your happy little sexual fun-time quirk reported in the papers?
