I received a mail solicitation from Catholic Relief Services today.
Relief is my chosen charity. I can't believe that people contribute to things
like ballet companies and Public Radio when there are millions of human beings
cold and sick and starving, covered with dirt and rain and bugs. And CRS has a very efficient
throughput of your money to the field activities, much more than most "charities".
But this Catholic thing....I don't know. The best thing that people in wretchedly poor countries can do is to stop reproducing. Every country needs to get the number of people in line with what their environment and resources can provide for.
Catholics go for unbridled reproduction, and I think that that's destructive, whether in the slums of Sierra Leone or in the middle schools of urban America.
